BBBEE / BEE Advice

The Chamber no longer carries out audits according to Dick Wheelwright a senior business advisor with the ZCCI.

The situation has changed in that the current legislation requires the rating body to be at arms length with its parent organisation. The same applies to any other rating company who has a similar relationship with their “mother body”.

The Chamber has chosen to advise members on current legislation when requested.

There are currently no accredited verification agencies. However some companies are well down the road towards being accredited.

Not all companies require a scorecard having a turnover of less than R5 million. They are still required to provide evidence of their turnover to the Buyer. The Chamber can advise the steps you need to take in this instance.

We also suggest members visit the D.T.I website http://www.dti.gov.za  to see how the BEE Portal can assist interested companies.

The dti Unveils the Nation's First Interactive, Multi-Purpose Broad-Based BEE Portal

In order to ensure a better understanding and further compliance with the dti's Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) Codes of Best Practice and Verification Manual, the Department launched the nation's first-ever interactive B-BBEE Portal, a publicly accessible central database, which features a variety of user-friendly tools to assist South African businesses, including facilities aimed at: Promoting local business opportunities; Reporting B-BBEE fronting; Managing the flow of information to the dti; and Providing a 'self assessment tool' for companies to gauge their B-BBEE status.
